Dorothy Guinn and Ester Everson Car Accident Death Gray County, Texas Obituary:  A tragic head-on collision on Interstate 40 west of McLean has claimed the lives of two women, leaving the Pampa and Amarillo communities in deep sorrow. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) identified the victims as 81-year-old Dorothy Guinn of Pampa and 60-year-old Ester Everson of Amarillo. The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2026, near mile marker 140, resulting in a temporary closure of the eastbound lanes.

According to preliminary DPS reports, Guinn was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe westbound in the eastbound lanes when it collided head-on with Everson’s Toyota Highlander. Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their vehicles, suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash’s severity underscores the dangers of wrong-way driving on high-speed highways.

DPS investigators are conducting a thorough examination to determine the cause. Key areas of focus include the point of wrong-way entry, potential signage issues near Pampa and McLean, medical factors that may have affected the 81-year-old driver, and mechanical inspections of both vehicles to rule out equipment failures.

Dorothy Guinn was remembered by Pampa residents as a warm, caring individual whose presence enriched her community. Ester Everson, an Amarillo resident, was in the prime of her life, and her loss has devastated her family. Their deaths have prompted an outpouring of grief across the Texas Panhandle.

As investigations continue, the families seek closure, and the community honors the enduring legacies of Guinn and Everson. The roadway has reopened, but the impact of this tragedy lingers.
